…It was in the quiet of her nana’s bedroom, during a regular family visit, after sneaking away from the adults to explore, that she first became acquainted with the box. The box was a deep velvet green, trimmed with gold, sitting pride of place on the antique duchess. But the box that truly captured her imagination and attention, but the cluster of jewels that lay within…spilling out, beckoning her small hands to touch, adorn, and play with them. Strings of pearls, gold bangles, gem rings – it was like a lolly jar filled with sweet treats. As she viewed her reflection in the mirror, adorned with trinkets and all that sparkles, in that moment she was no longer just a girl, but a royal princess in the fairytale that played in her mind…
This was Linda Tahija’s earliest memory of her love affair with jewellery.
Her career began after graduating from Sydney’s prestigious College of Fine Arts. Linda worked her way up to became the head designer at a company that supplied works to Australia’s largest commercial jewelers, a role that took her to Bangkok in Thailand and saw her work alongside some truly inspiring designers. Four years later, the dream in her heart to have her very own label beckoned and so she made her way back to Australia.
Drawn to the ability of a piece of jewellery to tell a story and hold a deep personal meaning for the wearer, it is her goal that her very own creations will become such items, treasured and past on from generation to generation.
Each Linda Tahija Sterling Silver Jewellery work is made from nickel free sterling silver and coated in precious metals. The label is recognised for producing pieces that feature exquisite texture and patterning, available in silver, rose or yellow gold plated/vermeil.
While her passion for jewellery is founded in childhood memories, her inspiration and reference comes from the distinct, tribal patterns and artworks of ancient cultures in far away places. Think of works created by native African, Aztec and North American Indian tribes.
Her collections will often see coloured, precious stones, placed amongst striking, bold, exotic patterned and shaped settings. Each piece is hand finished, adding to the label’s charm.
